Informatio

About

A directory that nobody has to maintain.

Most local directories die the same way: someone builds a list, the list goes stale, the person moves on. Informatio is an experiment in the other direction. It owns no data. It takes what OpenStreetMap already knows about Nottingham's public places, turns it into fast pages, and starts again from scratch whenever the data is fetched.

The data

Where every listing comes from.

Source

OpenStreetMap, through its public query service. The script asks for named places of each kind within a set distance of Old Market Square and keeps one record per name and kind.

What's kept

Name, kind, street, postcode, phone, website, opening hours, step-free access and the position, exactly as OpenStreetMap holds them. If a field is missing there, it is missing here.

Licence

Open Database Licence (ODbL). The whole list is published as a file on this site under the same terms. Credit OpenStreetMap contributors if you use it.

Refreshing

One command fetches the data again and the site is rebuilt. The footer of every page shows the date of the fetch it was built from.

Who's behind it

The honest bit.

Informatio is a concept site built by Jordan Brookes, who builds websites and workflows as Built by Brookes in Nottingham. It isn't run by, or connected to, Nottingham City Council, the NHS or any public body, and nobody pays to be listed. It exists to show that a useful, fast, many-page site can be built from open data without a database, a content team or a maintenance budget, and to be handy while it does.

Something wrong?

Fix it at source.

Every place page has an edit link to its entry on OpenStreetMap. Correcting it there helps every map and app that uses the data, not just this one. If the problem is with the site itself rather than a listing, email the address in the privacy notice.

A name, a kind of place, a street or a postcode.
